ZYPPAH® LAUNCHES LIMITED EDITION PINK HYBRID ORAL SNORING APPLIANCE AND DONATES $5.00 FROM EVERY UNIT SOLD TO SUSAN G. KOMEN®

To Celebrate National Sleep Awareness Day, the “Pink ZYPPAH®” will be sold to snorers with $5.00 from every sale being donated to support Susan G. Komen® and Breast Cancer awareness.

Los Angeles, CA – While they will never admit it, women actually snore! But be careful when asking, because if she does, this is a subject that until now has not typically been discussed with family and friends. That has all changed with the invention of ZYPPAH® (pronounced Zee Pah, it’s Happy Z spelled backwards). Now, the Pink ZYPPAH is coming to households around the world and it’s changing the way people think, talk about, and deal with snoring.

Although the pink version of the hybrid oral appliance was designed years ago, the company kept it a closely held secret. This was done to ensure that every unit sold would result in $5.00 being donated to Susan G. Komen.

ZYPPAH’s founder and CEO, Dr. Jonathan Greenburg wanted to wait until the national partnership with Komen was approved before making the Pink ZYPPAH available to the public. The timing of the announcement coinciding with National Sleep Apnea Awareness Day 2014, which is an added bonus, will hopefully attract the attention of the mass media and turn April into a pink month just like October.

ZYPPAH Hybrid Oral Appliances were developed to help people stop snoring and get a great night of sleep. The Pink ZYPPAH takes the most popular snoring appliance, endorsed by celebrities, and makes it “female-fashion-friendly”. More importantly, the Pink ZYPPAH is about year-round Breast Cancer awareness and an unwavering commitment to raising money for an important cause.

In May 2012, a month before ZYPPAH launched its Hybrid Oral Snoring Appliance, the NY Times posted an article linking Sleep Apnea to Cancer . It was this story that led ZYPPAH’s founder and CEO, Dr. Jonathan Greenburg to reach out to Komen.

Dr. Greenburg commented, “Having treated thousands of patients, celebrities and professional athletes for sleep apnea, nearly all of them initially thought they just had a snoring problem, it was important for me to get people thinking and talking about snoring. While most see it as a nuisance that can be ignored, there are millions of people who snore, and among the snorers there are an alarming number of people with undiagnosed sleep apnea.” Greenburg continued, “By getting people to think, discuss, and act when it comes to snoring, I know lives will be saved. To be in a position to raise awareness about two deadly threats to families globally with one Pink ZYPPAH is a dream come true”

“We’re so pleased to have ZYPPAH as a partner in our mission to end breast cancer,” said Carrie Glasscock, Komen’s Director of Corporate Relations. “This program will help us raise vital funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.”

From April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 ZYPPAH will donate to Komen $5 from every “Pink ZYPPAH” sold, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $25,000.

Silent Killer: Silent Sleep Apnea Is Killing People And Nobody Heard It Coming!

Dr. Jonathan Greenburg, DDS
Snoring and Sleep Apnea Expert
March 20, 2014

Breathlessness, Panic, Fear, a Sense of Helplessness; have you ever felt these? When the person in bed lying next to you is snoring and it sounds like they are choking in their sleep, what goes through your mind? If you or your loved one have ever experienced something like this, you may not know it, but the choking you hear at night could be a warning sign of a more serious problem that could lead to significant health issues, including death. It is estimated that 80% of all sleep apnea cases go undiagnosed.

Now consider the fact that we have recently been seeing a terrifying amount of cases where, according to the patient and their loved ones, not even the slightest snore, cough, or gasp was heard, while they test off the charts for life-threatening sleep apnea. Imagine how tragic the realization is when you finally grasp that the love of your life is suffocating next to you and not only are they dying in their sleep, but also cannot effectively alert anyone. If you’re not horrified, you should be.

If it were not for the recent work snoring and sleep apnea experts were doing to raise awareness about the signs of undiagnosed sleep apnea and the typical symptoms, not only would many of these silent sufferers most likely die from sleep apnea, but also, their loved ones would have to live forever wondering if they could have prevented it. The truth is, they could have. It’s this simple, if you are struggling to lose weight, have little to no energy, wake up feeling tired, can’t find the motivation you once had, chances are you are struggling with some form of sleep impairment. It may not be full-blown and potentially lethal sleep apnea; however, a simple test could tell you and an expert like myself everything we need to know.

Think about it – a simple test can make all the noise you need to save you or your loved-ones life? If you have even the slightest notion that you or your loved-one may be struggling to find healthy sleep patterns, get tested immediately! It’s affordable, easy, and will help us save your life; the truest fools are the ones who choose not to know.

Whether you’re shaking the rafters with snoring or as silent as a church mouse, choking in the bed is your body talking to you, but are you listening? Do you feel alive and full of energy when you leap out of bed every morning…I didn’t think so. Both traditional sleep apnea and silent sleep apnea are potentially deadly, either way, you can start the healing today if you get contact a snoring and sleep apnea expert. In case you weren’t clear, let me remind you what you’re up against with sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a serious condition that, left untreated, could lead to:

  • 4 times increased risk of Cancer

  • Increased risk of Stroke

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Higher rate of death due to Heart Disease

  • Heart Attack

  • Diabetes causing impaired glucose tolerance and insulin resistance

  • Impaired concentration

  • Falling asleep at work or behind the wheel of your car

  • Mood changes

  • Increased risk of being involved in a deadly motor vehicle accident

  • Gastric Reflux (GERD)

Sleep apnea is not just a mild to moderate nuisance that can be endured or will just go away over time. (Actually, it gets worse with age, not better.) It is a warning sign that your body is telling you that you need to take action.

What Causes Sleep Apnea And Why Is It Important To Me?

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine says, “The brain responds to the lack of oxygen (produced by a blockage in your airway) by alerting the body, causing a brief arousal from sleep that restores normal breathing. This pattern can occur hundreds of times in one night…

Most people with OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) snore loudly and frequently, with periods of silence when airflow is reduced or blocked. They then make choking, snorting or gasping sounds when their airway reopens .” This pattern results in broken sleep, fatigue, restlessness and next-day loss of focus. But it may also lead to more serious consequences as noted above and may be eerily silent – how terrifying is that?!

Who’s At Risk?

OSA can occur in any age group, but prevalence increases between middle and older age. Those most at risk include:

  • Loud Snorers

  • People who are overweight (Body Mass Index of 25 to 29.9) and obese (Body Mass Index of 30 and above)

  • Men and women with large neck sizes: 17 inches or more for men, 16 inches or more for women

  • Middle-aged and older men, and post-menopausal women

  • Ethnic minorities

  • People with abnormalities of the bony and soft tissue structure of the head and neck

  • Adults and children with Down Syndrome

  • Children with large tonsils and adenoids

  • Anyone who has a family member with OSA

  • People with endocrine disorders such as Acromegaly and Hypothyroidism

  • Smokers

  • Those suffering from nocturnal nasal congestion due to abnormal morphology, rhinitis or both

  • People that gag easily, especially at the Dental Office

  • Those diagnosed with High Blood Pressure

  • People with Type II Diabetes

If you belong in any one of these groups, ask yourself, How many times have you had episodes where you’ve awaken in the middle of the night gasping for air, reaching for a pillow, water, anything to help you breathe? It may be more than just a one-time thing or something to shrug off. And how about the fear and frustration of a partner sleeping with you whom you wake up from your breathless attack or worse…never heard your attack at all?

It’s one thing to suffer sleep apnea on your own. It’s another to watch a loved one suffer alongside you when you are trying to sleep.

What Can I Do?

Fortunately there is hope and treatment for sleep apnea. A snoring and sleep apnea expert must first diagnose it; and most-likely a “Home Sleep Study,” (HST) will be scheduled to get an exact picture of your sleep patterns. Only then will we be able to determine the best course of action; however, within a matter of days a qualified expert can begin the lifesaving process.

After diagnosis, suitable treatments may include:

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP):

High success rate, especially for Severe Sleep Apnea but difficult to tolerate for many patients, CPAP introduces a steady stream of pressurized air to patients through a mask that they wear while asleep to keep the airway open.

Oral appliances:

Good for mild to moderate cases. Oral appliances look like sports mouth guards and help maintain an open and unobstructed airway. Zyppah’s mouthpiece provides double protection by advancing the jaw as well as stabilizing the tongue.

Surgery:

Surgery is a treatment option for OSA when treatments such as CPAP and oral appliances are unsuccessful.

Other options include behavioral changes, over-the-counter remedies and position therapy. It is essential to have a sleep study done after treatment if you had surgery or an oral appliance. The lack of snoring does not mean the treatment was successful.

If you or a loved one suffers from sleep apnea, go see a snoring and sleep apnea specialist immediately and get diagnosed. Uncontrolled choking or waking up at night gasping for air is not something to be ignored. And for those of you without the luxury of snoring as a red flag, get tested to be sure. Take it seriously. Get it checked out tonight!

Second-Hand Snoring: Someone Else’s Snoring Might Be Hurting More Than Your Ears!

Dr. Jonathan Greenburg, DDS
Snoring and Sleep Apnea Expert
March 5, 2014

Do you live with a snorer? Are you a snorer yourself? Do you know how crazy you make your partner when you snore? Even worse, did you know that if your sleep is impacted at all by someone else’s loud snoring, you are not only a victim of Second-Hand Snoring, but also run the risk of suffering from significant health issues? Yes, like Second-Hand Smoking, Second-Hand Snoring can be hurting someone you love and more than your relationship may be in jeopardy. 60 Minutes on CBS did an incredible story on the science of sleep , which delves into the subject of obstructed sleep and just how damaging Second-Hand Snoring can be.

Perhaps you don’t tell your partner about their snoring or you even sleep alone because you’re embarrassed about your own snoring. (And this happens more often than you think.) We have a tiny announcement to make and it’s possible you may have no idea about this, but snoring itself is more than just noise that drives you up the wall, it may be a sign of a more serious problem: Sleep Apnea. It is my personal mission to rid the world of snoring, and by extension, sleep apnea. I have dedicated my life to becoming an expert on the subjects of snoring, sleep apnea, and Second-Hand Snoring. We all know that snoring is a pain to sleep through and even worse to experience as a partner, but more often than not, it’s far more than a nuisance; it’s something that may be an underlying symptom, of a problem more serious.

What Causes People To Snore?

Did you know? That it has been estimated that between 30-50% of Americans snore at one time or another? Now, let’s be clear, snoring does not automatically mean you have sleep apnea, but generally speaking, there may be a connection, something worth checking out.

Snoring can be caused by a variety of factors, not the least of which is being overweight. With America’s ever-expanding waistline, there is definitely a link here. Without being an alarmist, rid yourself of any excess weight, even with the help of a doctor, if you must, if obesity plagues you.

Other factors that may cause snoring include:

Being a middle-aged and older man, being a post-menopausal woman, and being an ethnic minority, to name a few.

What Is The Big Deal About Sleep Apnea? I’ve Heard About It But how bad can it be?

Not only can sleep apnea be worse than you’ve ever imagined; it can kill you! Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder that causes a person to temporarily stop breathing while they’re sleeping. “It occurs when the muscles relax during sleep, causing soft tissue in the back of the throat to collapse and block the upper airway. This leads to pauses in breathing that last at least 10 seconds during sleep. Most pauses last between 10 and 30 seconds, but some may persist for one minute or longer.” (American Academy of Sleep Medicine)

Sleep apnea can affect anyone at any time. And about 80 percent to 90 percent of adults with OSA remain undiagnosed. So while your boyfriend/partner/spouse/sister/cat/dog/neighbor next door is breaking the sound barrier with their horrific snoring, there is more at stake than just peaceful sleep. Snoring, sleep apnea, and Second-Hand Snoring are destroying lives, relationships, and otherwise good health nightly. The good news is that there is a solution and we’ve discovered a treatment for snoring that actually works. Lucky you.

But besides the joy of knowing that my team and I are rooting for you and doing all we can to help you lead the best life possible, do you see now why it’s important to warn loved ones if they’re snorers? Snoring is a nuisance? Yes. It ruins your love life? Maybe. It drives you crazy? Yes. But it’s also a sign of something more serious (possibly).

May I make a suggestion?

Lose the nuisance, lose the snore, and take your loved one to a reputable snoring and sleep apnea specialist to get tested. Drag ‘em kickin’ and screamin’ if you have to. Yes, we know it’s never fun going to the doctor (and who wants to hear bad news or have yet another health problem to cope with!), but aren’t you worth it? We think so. See your specialist about sleep apnea today and realize that your snoring and sleep apnea are not only hurting you, they may be hurting everyone around you as well. The solution is out there but you need to wake up and find it.

CPAP/APAP

HOW DO I USE A CPAP?

Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) is considered by many the gold standard for the treatment of sleep apnea, especially for very severe cases. The CPAP and APAP machines are designed to increase air pressure going through the throat. This prevents the airway from collapsing during inhalation. At Snore Experts, we have helped countless patients get a good night’s rest using CPAP treatments to treat their sleep apnea. The goal of positive airway pressure is to keep the airway from collapsing using air pressure.
