My husband and I sleep in separate bedrooms — here’s why

Just because you’re married doesn’t mean you have to sleep together every night.

Influencer Taylor Paul shared a video revealing the reasons why she and her husband sleep in separate bedrooms.

Paul first explained that multiple times, her husband would search around their room at night looking for a shirt.

When he would go to another room to search for it, she suggested that he just sleep in the guest room so that she could go back to bed.

She explained that the nights he slept in the guest room, she would end up having a really good sleep.

Sleep Science

Learning after sleep may be key for consolidating information

Staying up late to cram for tests has become a normal part of the high school and college academic process. Now, researchers from Brown University in the United States and the RIKEN Center for Brain Science in Japan say that this practice hinders rather than helps the learning process.

The Bose Sleepbuds 2 are the best sleep headphones you can buy

Getting a good night’s sleep is central to your physical and mental health. And, unfortunately, most of us have at least some trouble getting to or staying asleep regularly. In the past, I was firmly on the “staying asleep” spectrum, with little problem falling asleep but a consistent habit of waking up in the middle of the night. But, after spending six months wearing the Bose Sleepbuds 2, I am a changed woman.

Experience: Dr. Greenburg and his staff are amazing! The entire staff is so professional yet so caring unlike most doctors offices. The mouth device has made my sleep apnea tolerable and improved my apnea by 75%. The mouth device is, in my opinion, 100% better than the CPAP machine. I am so happy I found Dr. Greenburg. Thanks everyone for saving my life!

Q & A

Our readers are invited to email us with their questions!

Q: Can hitting the snooze button give you extra meaningful sleep? (Michael R.)

A: Michael, unfortunately, setting multiple alarms and hitting the snooze button multiple times is generally not recommended. When you’re hitting the snooze button multiple times in the morning, you’re increasing the amount of sleep fragmentation throughout the night. You’re also likely interrupting important sleep stages, particularly REM sleep, which is more common during the second half of the night. Instead of hitting the snooze button, set your alarm for as late as you possibly can. For example, if you need to be at work by 9AM, set your alarm for 7AM and wake up exactly when the alarm comes on – even if you’re groggy – rather than setting up multiple alarms at 6:30, 6:45, and 7.

Q: Does sleep actually support body fat regulation and weight management? (Adam K.)

A: Adam, sleep does actually support the management and regulation of body fat. Our circadian rhythm is the natural, internal process that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and it is very closely tied to the quality and length of our sleep. Sleep sets our metabolic clock which influences how much energy we burn each day, as well as the function of our hormones ghrelin and leptin, the hormones that control our feelings of hunger and sense of satiety throughout the day.

You may have noticed that when you are lacking in sleep you feel more hungry and less satisfied than on days when you wake up feeling refreshed and energized.
