"We Treat the Tough Cases"

Jonathan Greenburg, DDS & Michael Tong, DDS
Exclusively Treating Sleep Apnea, Snoring, and CPAP Intolerance

www.SnoreExperts.com

Wow, it has been 4 months to build out our new Suite but we are finally here. Come in and say Hi. We hope you will like our new office.

It has all the latest technology for the most advanced sleep treatment anywhere, including:

  • A new CBCT unit which shows us your airway, mouth, nose and sinuses in 3 dimensions. If you haven’t seen what this machine can do, plan on being amazed.
  • Digital impressions. Yes, it replaces that gooey stuff we have used forever. And it is more accurate, meaning the appliances should fit even better.
  • And we are now able to provide treatment for Vivos. Vivos is a new and exciting treatment option for Sleep Apnea. If this is something you want to find out more about, call our office.

Thank you for being patient with us. We know we have had issues with our phones and much more. With this growth, we are short staff. (I know this is a common theme.) In fact if you know anyone looking to work in healthcare and is a warm, wonderful and caring person, have them call our office and speak to Veronica. Tell her you heard about it in the Newsletter here.

Again, thank you for your support and especially your patience. From our family to yours, Dr.s Greenburg and Tong.

Sleepless in Chicago: Top 10 Areas, Towns Where Residents Get the Most, Least Sleep and How It Affects Them

Did you get enough sleep last night?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says everyone 18 and older should get a minimum of seven hours of sleep. Did you?

If not, you’re by no means alone. According to the CDC, a surprising number of adults don’t get those seven hours of sleep a night. Nationwide, this ranges from a low of 29 percent of adults in Colorado saying they don’t get enough sleep, all the way up to nearly 43 percent of adult residents in what is apparently the most sleep-deprived state in the union, West Virginia.

Study finds women have great career aspirations when they sleep well

A new study found that women who want to advance in their careers should try to get a good night's rest.

Researchers at Washington State University surveyed 135 U.S. workers over two weeks on their sleep, mood, and how they felt about striving for more status and responsibility at work.

They found that when the women were getting a good night's sleep, their moods were elevated, and they had more aspirations at work.

Sleep doctors’ orders: Use standard time 365 days a year

That seems to be message from the country’s sleep-medicine physicians as this Sunday most Americans will lose an hour of sleep when clocks “fall back” to standard time from daylight saving time (DST). But the semiannual ritual of adjusting the time by an hour isn’t just an annoyance, they say.

In a position statement published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is unequivocal in advocating elimination of daylight saving time, the practice of setting clocks ahead one hour between mid-March and early November.

Therabody SmartGoggles Review: A Worthy Addition to Your Sleep Routine

The SmartGoggles arrived in my life at an opportune time. A few days after Therabody handed over a review unit of their new device – a bulky, space-age eye mask that promised to knead away facial tension and help me off to sleep – I was struck down with a debilitating condition (slight sinus headache, Extreme Sniffles) that called for at least two weeks of bed rest and whining. An on-hand masseuse from the future might prove useful, I thought.

Q & A

Our readers are invited to email us with their questions!

Q: What should I do if the appliance I got from my Dentist breaks? (Marcus A.)

A: Marcus, you should return to the dentist who made it. They can often repair it right then or in some cases, send it back to the lab. It also depends on how it broke. If it broke from normal use, there is a much better chance it can be repaired. If instead, it was because your dog chewed it, you might need a new one. For those appliances more than a few years old, it might be replacement time as these custom Dentist made appliances usually last from 3 – 7 years.

If you are very happy with the appliance from your Dentist, I recommend to many of my patients is to get a duplicate. That way if the dog eats it, or it gets left at a hotel, etc you are not without your key to a real good night sleep.

Q: Can I prevent OSA when I'm older if I treat it aggressively enough when I am younger? (Azur B.)

A: Azur!, treating any disease or medical condition early is always the smart decision. The reason is: you can prevent the damaging effects that would be occurring otherwise. Treating it later, you have to fix the damage as well as treat a much more severe disease.

Historically, it is much easier to treat any medical condition in its early stages rather than when it is severe.

Just think of cancer. If you catch it early, the long term impact will be minimal, but if you waited a couple of years you might not make it out alive. Sleep apnea too can be serious if not treated soon enough. And almost 50% of those who snore, have Sleep Apnea. If you snore, are overweight, have high blood pressure and/or Type 2 Diabetes, you have a greater than 90% chance of having Sleep Apnea. Don’t wait, get tested!
